Recently, Rev. Dr. Elizabeth spoke of Paul’s amazing transformation from Saul, a Pharisee who persecuted Christians, to Paul, an evangelist who preached Christ crucified. “God transforms us for his purposes.” she said.
Paul’s transformation occurred on the road to Damascus when the voice of Jesus asked from a burning bush why Saul was persecuting him. Referring to the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5 where Jesus says, “You are the light of the world” she said we all have to be open to letting the light in. Like Paul, we are all called to make our broken lives renewed for God’s purpose, “to surrender what we are to allow God to make us influence other people. As Jesus said ‘I will make you fishers of people’.”
Jesus also says, “You are the salt of the earth.” Rev. Dr. Elizabeth said that salt and light affect what is around us. “Be the salt. Show unconditional love. Light is wisdom, enlightenment – the truth of God’s word – life love and liberation,” she said. “What have you learned from Christ and have to teach? We have to share the light of the Gospel with as many people as we can. The Gospel, the good news – what is it for you? Do you share your own good news story? For me the meaning of life is to grow and become the creature of God we were created to be – the salt of the earth. You are the light of the word. Make haste and be kind. Our world needs a whole lot of our salt and light.”
