New Lay Annointers at All Saints, Earth Day & Bishop Fenty’s Visit

Review of Bishop Peter Fenty’s Visit:

For those who were not able to attend the April 22nd service, you missed a wonderful celebration of new ministry & earth day reflections.

Our area Bishop Peter Fenty made his yearly visit to All Saints on Sunday. After a youth-led song performance in honor of Earth Day, Bishop Fenty personally greeted our young people and reminded them how important it was to protect the planet God gave us. He later formally commissioned our four lay annointers who offer special personal anointing and prayers for the healing of mind, body and spirit during the Eucharist. Our much appreciated and licenced lay annointers are: Leah Springford, Aileen Van Ginkle, Gladys Atawo and Bridget Butt.

The Bishop’s homily challenged us to know Christ better, and to find him in others, referencing John’s Gospel story. In it Christ says: “ I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me…The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.“ The visit by our open and friendly Bishop is always a highlight of the year at All Saints.

After the service, we wished Gary and Cindy Hillaby the best of luck as they move into a new chapter of their lives.
