Wednesday in Holy Week

Did you know that Wednesday in Holy Week is called Spy Wednesday?

During Holy Week, Wednesday is known as Spy Wednesday because on this day Judas made a bargain with the high priest to betray Jesus for 30 silver pieces (Matt 26:14-16; Mark 14:10-11; Luke 22:1-6).  This is also the day that Jesus was anointed with an expensive jar of alabaster by the woman at Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper (Matt 26:6-13; Mark 14:3-9; John 12:1-19). We all betray Jesus in the things that we conspire to do or say that will intentionally hurt others. Jesus commands us to love one another. We betray him when we fail to do that. Today we are invited to recognize the *Judas* that dwells within the shadows of us all. In doing so, we must keep still, silence our minds, and hear the quiet voice of God speaking within our hearts saying, “Turn around. Come back to me. Let me wash you clean and redeem you through my infinite love and mercy.”
